hi. id appreciate some help on this displacements thing. As soon as i select create, power, ok, the whole block disappears leaving only the faces that have been selected for displacement. Ive looked at other tutorials and the other faces are textured. I cant even select the other faces, they are proper gone! they only show up in the orthographic windows and not the 3D view... if anyone has a clue whats going on please help.

so what you're saying is, when you select the primitive, it disappears? I believe its ensuring that you are not using a proper "shape" for displacements
If you use a square and attach the vertex's, displacements will not work, it must be a 4 sides and 2 top and bottom faces for the displacements to work

ah no. I selected the top face only and made it a displacement and it destroyed the whole thing save for the top face which was triangulated. I found out what it was; apparently you have to displace all the faces that are seen. I was hoping to not have to displace any other sides other than the top face of a ruined wall to save FPS but i guess theres no other way.

Actually there is. . . What you do is select the whole primitive(s) and then make them a displacement. Then open the displacement window, the Selection tool is selected in the displacement window, and select brush faces that you want to destroy and now use, to select more than one brush face, hold the ctrl button and left mouse click to select. Then you should see the option "destroy" tool, click that and the displacement brush faces are now erased.

aah, right. So all the faces that you want to remain visible have to be displaced as well, even if youre going to leave it flat. n1 tx a lot. Works now
