is it possible to have an elevator go from say ground floor to 5th floor and if a button is pressed on any of the other floors on the way up the lift stops for a set amount of time until the inner lift button is pressed again to carry on to the 5th floor. what im trying to do is have a lift that goes up to a 5th floor and zombies can run up the stairs and stall the lift at any floor pressing the call button on that floor theyre on to try and get the CTs, and the lift will carry on going up ultiil it's interrupted again until it reaches the top floor. if you can make any sense of this the id be grateful for any help

Yes there is a way for that, it's not simple either, I am still trying to figure out the way to make a multi-level elevator work myself, I've seen it done before, but the owner of the map won't let me decompile it. If you ever heard of the map: csc_desert or something like that, he is a god at map making, as well as architecture, I am glad to have him as a friend.
However once I get information from him on how to figure this out, I will let you know.

Thanx, n1. do you mean rp_cscdesert, because thats what comes up on the searches? How about a logic_case or case_logic whatever its called, tied in to the buttons so each button activates a different destination brush. I read a turorial about making random mortar fire that used this case entity to select different hit locations, so would that be possible to apply to buttons in this context? Just a thought.

n1, tx a lot. Its for garry's mod, and apparently you can do lots of wacky things with the physics and all that in it so it wouldnt surprise me if the multi elevator is afunction of that. the rp_cscdesert map is one of the best garrys mod maps I had ever seen. The guy who designed it, I talked to him and asked a few questions, he said he has been mapping since half life came out, and has been making maps for several years. He is very informative and gave me help on what to do.
